City Palace Museum - A glimpse in to Royalty
An astounding and impressive former palace that has been converted in to a museum, City Palace Museum is a treasure trove of ancient artefacts that provide unique insights. To begin your journey in to the museum all must pass through its front gate known as Ganesh Deori (Door of Lord Ganesha). From here visitors will find themselves in a grand courtyard known as Rajya Angan (Royal Courtyard) which impresses with its aesthetic beauty.
Once past the two introductory areas of the gate and courtyard visitors can enter the main part of the museum. The interiors are maintained as they were during their original use meaning that they are lavishly furnished and elegant in nature. Visitors will find ornately decorated furniture, mirror tiles and various paintings throughout.
Unlike a standard museum the sections are all divided based on rooms and each room is referred to as a palace. The Ruby Palace presents a magnificent collection of glassware and mirror work while the Pearl Palace also shows an enticing display of mirror work. A rich collection of miniature paintings can be found in the Krisna Villas while the Chini Mahal is decorated with ornamental tiles. These are just some of the rooms that can be found here ensuring that there is plenty to hold your interest.
The armoury museum is yet another destination inside the palace that should not be passed up. Housed here are as its name suggests are various types of armaments and protective gear that were used throughout various times in the palaces history. One particular item to highlight is the fatal two pronged sword which possesses a fear instilling appearance.
