Tractors, Mowers and the Perfect Yard

Man on Yard TractorI love the look of the freshly mowed lawn.  In the springtime and the summer it can transform your ordinary yard into the spectacular if even for just a few days.

It certainly helps to have quality equipment that is in good shape.  Maintenance is certainly something that can make your life with these tools more enjoyable.  If your tools are beat up and barely working you can spend all of your time keeping them running.  That is no fun.

Unfortunately it DOES take a lot of work.  And really you need several tools like a quality mower, string trimmer and a few other items to keep a yard in shape.  A lot of it will depend on what kind of disaster you have created in your yard!

As someone who grew up with hand shears to trim the edges of the grass next to a sidewalk or wall, I can tell you that a string trimmer (often called a weed eater) is the greatest thing to come along.

You need to size the equipment for your yard.  You may have a small city sized lot where all you need is a push mower, a string trimmer and perhaps an edger.  You might also need some hedge trimmers to keep bushes and hedges at bay too.

Then you may have a 1-5 acre lot.  This can be brutal with a push mower.  Yes it is probably time to get a yard tractor.  Sitting on the yard tractor drinking some ice tea while you mow is SO much better than pushing a mower.  Even if the walk behind mower is a self propelled type, the cuts are usually MUCH narrower than with a riding lawn mower.

Push MowerThen people like me who have 15 acres or more may have to break down and get a full sized tractor with a brush hog...or stalk cutter.  They are called different things in different areas.  Now you are dragging a high power steel monster that cuts a path 4-6 feet wide.  It is NOT particularly delicate.  They can just chomp their way through rocks and small trees.

You better bring your wallet to buy a new full sized tractor.  I had to opt for a used tractor.  The good news is that old tractors are easy to work on and most have very good parts availability.  I have had NO trouble keeping an old Ford tractor going for more than a decade.  In fact it runs better now than it did new probably.  It has been converted from 6V positive ground to 12 V negative ground.  It has a solid state ignition and now finally starts all the time.

Let's face it the life of a lawn mower, whether it be small or large is just a nasty life.  There is unbelievable amounts of dirt, dust and grass clippings that go down the shutes.

This is where maintenance comes in.  Mowers need clean air filters, clean gas, and clean oil to work properly.  I always wait until it cools down and clean it off with either compressed air or a heavy water spray depending on what is available.

Here at Agritech Mfg you will find mowers of all types, chain saws, string trimmers, full sized tractors, parts for all of them and even patio furniture.

We hope that you will find something you will enjoy for a lifetime.
